Roof tents and awnings for motorhomes

Holidaying close to nature, travelling where others never go: If you don't have a permanent roof over your head, you sleep in a tent. And if the tent is on the roof of the car, it is a cartop tent. Tent manufacturers have long since realised that roof tents are no longer exclusively for off-road and adventure holidays. Rooftop tents can now be found on every campsite. Once mounted on the roof rack, the compactly folded tents with the fixed base plate can be set up quickly and easily. They offer significantly more comfort and space than conventional tents. At CARAVAN SALON, well-known tent manufacturers, accessory manufacturers and more from all over the world come together to present their new products. Camper porch tents, high-angle tents, house tents and canopies are further sub-categories of tents, and you will also find these at CARAVAN SALON.

Camping-, Igloo- and Hiking tents - each type of tent is aimed at its own target group. For trekking, a small pack size and low weight are important points, while igloo tents offer better protection in different weather conditions. And roof tents are aimed at all those who want to go on holiday safely by car, would like to have a somewhat more solid tent and prefer quick set-up.

CARAVAN SALON sees itself as a comprehensive trade fair that covers everything to do with camping and caravans. Discover caravans/trailers, motor caravans, basic vehicles, mobile homes and much more on the subject of caravanning tourist industry and outdoor activities! Of course, accessories are not neglected either: you will get to know suppliers for installations / heating / gas / water, energy supply / electrical installation / electrical appliances and much more!

What exactly are camper awnings in general?

While roof tents are attached to the roof of the vehicle and are accessible via a ladder, camper awnings are located directly in front of the entrance to the camper. They offer simple weather protection by keeping rain and wind away from the entrance area of the camper. They also extend the living space to the outside. Table and chairs can be accommodated here in a reasonably sheltered area, as can a dirt-trapping mat for wet shoes. From lightweight sun protection and rainproof awnings to 4-season tents, manufacturers have a wide range of different camper awnings in their range. But they all have one thing in common: awning manufacturers know what is important in every situation. There is a suitable awning for every use. And this applies equally to roof tents. Here, too, a clear distinction is made between the various focal points. At CARAVAN SALON, the tent manufacturers will be presenting their new products and will be available to answer questions.

What are the differences between the individual tents? Roof tents are permanently installed on the roof rack of your car. You fold the tent up onto the top of the car roof and, thanks to a fixed base plate and a ladder, you spend the night on the car roof. Steep wall tents / house tents are a different matter. These tents are hardly suitable for travelling around, they are more like a party pavilion. With straight walls, like a house or hut, they allow you to stand upright and offer guests protection from the weather at parties. Canopies go in a similar direction. They keep out rain and hail and can be useful as a shelter without side walls. Awnings, on the other hand, are built in front of the actual tent or caravan. They serve as an entrance area that is already roughly protected from the weather, but is not yet part of the interior. A seating area can be placed here, but dirty shoes can also remain in the awning. Caravan canopies protect the caravan from the weather. After all, strong sunlight, rain, hail and snow naturally damage the caravan. The protective roofs keep these harmful influences at bay, making them a kind of mobile carport. Camping / igloo / trekking tents are what you probably have in mind when you think of camping: These tents are suitable for overnight stays, are more or less spacious, mobile and quick to set up. Further sub-categories are awnings / canopies (as light sun and rain protection) and tent accessories (guy ropes, pegs and other accessories).

Roof and awning tents: current trends and developments

Tent manufacturers offer a large selection of different models and equipment variants. Regardless of whether a quick, uncomplicated set-up is important to you, whether you value low weight and small pack size or have high demands on weather resistance: There is a suitable awning or roof tent for you.

Both roof tents and camper awnings have now become so mainstream in the camper scene that manufacturers are focussing on innovative designs for a modern and attractive appearance. Robust materials, innovative processing methods and skilful design ensure high resistance to all weather conditions. Innovations come partly from military technology, partly from aerospace - the outdoor sector as a whole benefits from new materials from these industries.

Camping is a holiday. And you can clearly see that in the tents: Clever room layouts guarantee the best possible utilisation of the admittedly always somewhat sparse living space. The equipment is designed to provide as much comfort as possible. You should also be able to spend a relaxing time in your tent and unwind. This is ensured not least by the high safety standards that camper awnings and roof tents have to fulfil. Tent manufacturers even think about the colour of the material: late sleepers should not be woken up by the morning sun, which is why many tents are available in dark versions.
